Major Ways How Do Banks Make Money

1) Loans:

Lending loans to borrowers from the public is a major way for commercial banks to earn money. These could be personal loan, home loan, car loan and other type of mortgages.

The money lent to a person comes from the money deposits of other customers. Banks generally restrict the amount of withdrawals to remain solvent, especially for forwarding loans. This ensures that the money remains within the bank.

The amount is lent to a person at a higher interest rate for a fixed period of time. As the loan amount starts getting recovered, the bank pays a portion of the interest value to other depositors and keeps the remaining as its “earning”.

Issuance of loans creates money.

Let’s take a simple example. Person A does a fixed deposit worth 100,000 with a bank @8% annual interest for 5 years. Person B requests a personal loan worth 100,000 with the same bank.

After checking person B’s credentials, the bank decides to extend the personal loan @13% annual interest for 5 years. The 5-year loan fetches 136,518 to the bank. At the same time, the fixed deposit matures and the bank pays 121,658 to person A.

The difference between the two – 14,860 – is the bank’s income.

2) Credit Cards:

Credit cards are unsecured loans extended by a commercial bank with the sole intention of earning heavy interest.

Availing a credit card, limited or unlimited value, gives the person access to immediate funds and the person is charged premium fees by the bank for extending this facility.

Initially, credit card issuing bank offer low late payment fees for the first year but from second-year onwards, the interest rates vary anywhere between 15% and 30%.

Often, mismanagement of credit cards by the user leads to a huge debt, which ends up in a high windfall for the bank.

3) Public Deposits

Money kept by the public in various types of savings and checking accounts is the largest source of funds for commercial banks.

The amount accountholders entrust the bank with safekeeping earns them a very basic interest amount. These deposits are pooled together and loaned out to other individuals or invested elsewhere.

The banks earn interest money and share the basic percentage with the savings or checking accountholder.

4) Debt Issuance

Commercial banks often issue debts to raise capital. This is done to maintain smooth banking operations and when the need arise; the banks will use sources like repurchasing agreements to access debt funding.

The issuance of bank bonds isn’t unusual but they aren’t a common source of issuing bank capital also; the bank bonds are either convertible or callable in nature. The ‘debt’ forms a small percentage of total loans in commercial banks and they aren’t major loanable funds either.

5) Service Fees

Commercial banks levy service fees on its customers and even though the service fees are marginal, it forms a large chunk of commercial bank earning medium.

Commercial banks charge service fees for ATM’s, overdrafts, operating a simple savings account, issuing debit cards, renewing debit cards, accessing internet banking and mobile banking, issuing checks, maintaining bank lockers and more.

It is highly recommended to consider this point when you write your next article if you are using Adsense. There is no point in getting more and more traffic but your blog’s earnings remain low or not increasing as expected.

I have earlier published a guide about how to increase the CPC (Cost Per Click) in Google Adsense. You may need to use some keyword research tools to find the higher paying keyword in the topic you are going to write. Even Google Adwords (and keyword planner) works very well to identify the good CPC keywords. But these tools including Google keyword Planner may confuse most of the new bloggers and look like a long procedure.

What’s The Simple Way to Find the High Paying Keywords?

It’s by Google search, yes, that’s right.

Doing a simple Google search can indicate the strength (in temrs of CPC cost and advertisers demand) of the particular keyword. Okay, this is not like other tools to show the estimated CPC value in dollars or other currency, but you can get an idea whether the keyword you searched is having potentiality to make money with more advertisers.

How This Helps?

This method will show you whether the particular keyword or search term is having more advertisers, more advertisers means more CPC, that means more money. I have already discussed the way how Google Adsense works and if more advertisers are targeting a particular keyword, then they will bid more and more to get the ad spot.

Here is the Way?

As said, its simple. Go to Google and search for the keyword you are thinking to target. Make sure you are not using any ad blockers in the browser. If you use ad blockers, it will block the Adsense ads on the search result.

Let us take this example, I’m thinking to write about “free mp3 download”. Simply search this keyword and see what’s coming up. Here is the search result of first page form the country I did the search.

No Ads – means no advertisers, that means no money in this topic.

If Google is not showing any ads (or showing very less ads) on their first search result page, it is the clear indication that this topic/niche is may not profitable. Even if you write about this topic and get thousands of visitors monthly, the Adsense ad quality on these posts will be very less and cheap. Ultimately the CPC from these posts will be very less and your blog will not make considerable amount of income from Adsense.

How About Other Test?

Here is another example, I’m hoping it will be so different than the first example. Let’s think about ‘Windows hosting providers’ as our keyword for research.

I’m sure you can guess how its working now. The particular keyword shows more (I think the maximum ads on the first page) on Google search first page. More ads means more advertisers are bidding for particular keyword or topic. More advertisers means, definitely it will be higher CPC. If your content/post can show these type of ads, possibly you will be getting good CPC than our earlier example ‘free mp3 download’.

What’s Important Here

1) We discussed about higher CPC only, but we are still not aware of how much is the estimated CPC of particular keyword. To find that out, you need to use other keyword research tools like Google Adwords or LongTailPro

2) We identified the potential higher CPC keywords only, but the competition would be higher to target these keywords and get in to Google’s first search result page. To find out the competition strength, you can follow this simple post here.

 Final Words

In short, this method would give the initial idea whether you should dig deeper of particular keyword or topic for your next post. The ‘Free mp3 download’ topic can be safely ignored since it doesn’t have enough (or any) advertisers. So, I do not want to waste time on finding more information about this topic, like the estimated CPC, analyzing competition, finding long tail keywords…etc. At the same time, the ‘Windows hosting providers’ keyword had thrown some lights as a potential keyword for my next article. Now I can dig deeper by doing other researches such as the estimated higher CPC, analyzing the competition and finding the long tail keywords. Basically, this method would be the first step you should follow to find your keyword before doing any other researches.

When it comes to finalize the keyword we need to target in next article, we always get confused with doubts. In my opinion,writing an article by keeping a keyword in mind will always help in getting more search engine traffic and Google Adsense earnings. In this post let me show a simple and free way to find the competition on a keyword.

Once you select a topic, next thing is to find a relevant keyword which should bring good search engine traffic (so it must have less competition in Google search result) and higher Adsense earning (so it must have higher Adsense CPC). By following below method you can guess the competition of particular keyword in Google search result page for free, that will help in eliminating high competitive keywords. Nothing is 100% guaranteed in blogging, but this method will give an idea of a keyword.

Currently I’m using two paid software to find keyword competition, LongTailPro and Micro Niche Finder. But still after doing competition test on these two paid software, I do follow this free method to make sure that the results are perfect and paid software are working accurately. Most of the time paid software results match with this free method, so I can safely say this method will work for you too.

The Method to Find Competition on Keyword For Free

It’s just by a browser add-on for Firefox, Chrome and other browsers.

Go to SEOquake website and download the browser add-on for your internet browser.

Enable it from browser settings,

Now go to Google and type the keyword you want to check the competition. In this example I type ‘Windows 8 download’ to see the competition.

Let’s look at first 5 URLs in the result page.

I can straightaway say that this keyword is difficult to target, you know why?

1) First 3 URLs are having higher PR

2) Most of them are aged domains (except last one which is 2005)

3) Alexa rank of these sites much higher than your or my blogs

4) If you see the number of Indexed links in Google and Bing, it’s very high compared to our blogs.

Here is my another attempt for different keyword, this time I tried ‘windows 8.1 crack download’and the result is,

I think I can give a try for this keyword, which is not tough like earlier one, here are the reasons for it.

1) Even though first two results are from Facebook (which is having more indexed links and good Alexa rank), I guess those are some Facebook pages which do not have any PR.

2) All results do not have any PR

3) Last three URL websites are mostly started on 2013 only,

4) Number of indexed links by Google and Bing do not look that much higher compared to previous result (except Facebook)

5) As a last test, I will visit these sites and see how they have written articles, covered on page SEO and how strong they are in social media networking.

As I said earlier, nothing is guaranteed in blogging. I do not say if you write a post about ‘windows 8.1 crack download’ today, your link will appear in Google’s first 5 results by tomorrow. But my point is, ‘windows 8.1 crack download’  keyword is having less competition than ‘Windows 8 download’ keyword.

This free method on how to find competition on a keyword will help you to eliminate high competitive keywords where you do not need to spend your time to write and promote them.
